By Skip Pratt

2002 - 2003
Welcome to the sixth in the series of articles
on organizing and writing your very own ebook.
So far, our tutorial process can be expressed
in this outline:
1. Write down what you LOVE to do
2. Write down jobs and work positions that you have held
3. Write down skills that you have
4. Prioritize and organize the above three
5. Write 'why' you love them
6. Perform market research on your theme / topic / category
7. Write titles, sub-titles
8. Write chapter or section outlines
The next step is fairly straightforward:
Write
Up to this point, you’ve taken 5 weeks
to brainstorm your strengths, experience and capabilities. You’ve
tried to connect some passion with these areas, because when
the writing and marketing get tough, the love and passion of
the topic that you write about will help carry you through the
down times.
Assuming you have done some market research,
you’ve selected your topic. Having written some sample
ebook titles and sub-titles, you then spent time outlining your
ebook by section or chapter.
You pull up to your computer, load your word
processor and one of two things will happen: you’ll either
stare at the screen awash in fear or you’ll start typing
away.
Please do the latter.
Remember, if you have tried to organize your
ebook into somewhat of a process, you will have made your writing
quite a bit easier.
If not, let me try to give you some additional
tips on ways to help you to write:
Write as though you are writing a letter
to your best friend.
Tell a story that builds suspense or lays
the foundation for your chapter.
Tell a story of another person.
Outline series’ of problems and
solutions that you have had success with.
Define ideas, tips and strategies for
your reader to use.
Interview experts and insert portions
of those interviews in select chapters of your ebook.
Give examples of attempts that ended with
both success and failure. Tell your reader the fundamentals
of why each occurred.
I think you get the point. There are sooooooo
many angles from which to come and to go toward, that you are
only limited by your imagination and fear!
If you are one who is gripped in fear, have
no worries. I remember when sending out my first newsletter
/ ezine last year. Here I was a 46 year old literally trembling
as I wrote the first issue of Author Tips.
But I persisted, broke through and those firs
6 subscribers who received the ezine didn’t flame me back
with criticism. In fact, it was about the fourth or fifth issue
of Author Tips before anyone even hit their reply button to
say anything at all.
By then, my fear had completely subsided.
If you keep at it, you WILL break through
and soon the confidence will begin to become strong inside you.
So, get busy writing. Time is burning! The
world is awaiting your first effort!
