Avoiding Spam
© By Skip Pratt
Avoiding the receipt of spam emails these
days can often seem like you're fighting a losing battle.
Have you tried changing your email address,
or putting in blockers and filters, but you still end up getting
bombed.
However, there are some real simple things
you can do to eliminate being on the receiving end of spam:
1. Don't publish your email on your website
using a 'mailto:' tag.
Using a 'mailto:' tag to post your email address
on your website is a huge billboard to the spa-mers autobots
saying "here I am, come get me". This is sure to get
your email address on a CD with 30 million other addresses being
sold for $29.
Instead, use Instant Email Scramble. Email
Scramble was developed by the well known internet marketer,
and my friend Dave Orme. It encrypts your email address so the
autobot harvesters cannot steal your email.
It's virtually foolproof and stops the bots
in their tracks. There are literally thousands of web sites
using Dave's Email Scramble. Check out his name or Email Scramble
on Google to see for yourself.

2. Conceal your Domain Registration data and
especially your email address.
Did you know that your domain registration
is considered public information? People and companies actually
buy registration data from the accredited registrars such as
Verisign / Network Solutions, Register.com, and dozens of others.
Not only is your data often sold without your
permission, in many cases the autobots can simply use an automated
program to crawl the Whois database and extract email addresses
directly from there.
So how can you conceal your domain registration
info?
Go to our sister company site to pick up the
Privacy Registration option.
For only $12.95 per year, you can have your
domain registration data completely concealed from anyone and
everyone.
How about a side bonus for this one? Did you
know that Google is now using domain registration data to try
and identify sites with heavy cross linking that are owned by
the same person or entity?
Yes, its true. And you can read about it on
almost all of the search engine forums.
Legally concealing your personal information
stops autobots (including Googles!) in their tracks!
Visit the link below and protect yourself.

Just click on the words 'private registrations
available', which you can find about 3/4 of the way down the
right hand site of the page.
Once on the privacy option page you can click
the 'show me the difference' link at the bottom to see how the
Domain Privacy feature looks and works.
You cannot see who is the owner nor can you
find the owners email address from the Whois data.
3. Don't believe the untrue notion that a
form will shield you from the autobot harvesters.
The spam 'bots have become smart and are now
able to harvest emails from simple forms such as those produced
by Dreamweaver or Frontpage.
Use Perl or PHP server side code to protect
your email addresses instead. This may be difficult for many
people because they don't know programming.
My friend Dave would be happy to provide you
with a form, or other programming support to help you achieve
your goals. Just drop me an email and I'll have him send you
a quote.
4. Consider using SpamAssasin or other server
side filters cautiously.
While these types of tools have their place,
(I have my own custom written filter) the 'one size fits all'
solution can cause legitimate emails to get deleted.
Wouldn't it be a shame to have a major deal
you're negotiating go south because you never received the approval
email?
By taking proper precautions, you'll sell
lots of copies of your ebook without the headache and trouble
that spam presents.
