JVC ProHD Handbook

The Second Edition of the JVC GY-HD100 Handbook

The JVC ProHD Handbook provides the information necessary for you to successfully transition from SD to HD production. Each chapter builds on the previous chapter so you can gain a working understanding of HDV technology as well as practical production and post-production skills. You can also skip to any chapter to quickly gain the information you need. If you find concepts you do not understand, you can come back and read the relevant chapter.

The Handbook is designed to meet the needs of prosumers and professionals who are currently shooting with one of the DV formats. It is not an "HDV for Dummies" book that simply expands upon the often poorly written camcorder manuals. Rather, it is a comprehensive introduction to ProHD technology, HD shooting, HD post-production, and distribution on HD videotape, DVDs, high definition DVD, and 35mm film.

The first four chapters introduce the technology you will be using when you shoot and edit ProHD.

Chapter 1: Introduction to Digital Video and Audio

Chapter 2: All About MPEG-2

Chapter 3: All About HDV

Chapter 4: Image Capture Technology

With an understanding of MPEG-2 and HD technology, Chapters 5, 6, and 7 will introduce the skills necessary for working with a JVC’s ProHD camcorder.

Chapter 5: Introduction to the JVC ProHD Family

Chapter 6: ProHD Family Shooting Guide

Chapter 7: ProHD Family Image Control Options

Chapter 8 introduces you to the ways you can connect a member of the ProHD Family to your editing system.

Chapter 8: ProHD Family Set-up and Connections

Chapter 9 covers HDV editing workflows. Each workflow provides a solution to the problems created by the inordinate computational power required to work with HD MPEG-2.

Chapter 9: ProHD Editing Workflows

Chapter 10 details the use of 720p to release on several types of HD media.

Chapter 10: 720p to HD Movies, High-definition DVDs, and Film

The six Appendices provide additional information on computers, working with audio, plus supplementary information on HDTV.
